If you think you’ve discovered all the good wineries in Georgia, think again! These wineries in the Northwest region of our state rival the great tastes of wine everywhere. Below is just a sampling of some of the distinctive wineries in the area, but please explore further…there is so much more to experience!

FAINTING GOAT VINEYARDS AND WINERY, Jasper
This boutique vineyard, nestled up against the side of Burnt Mountain just outside of the city of Jasper, offers exquisite, handcrafted wines grown from the finest certified French vines. Full-bodied reds, crisp and fruity whites, and sweet blends are the perfect compliment to any meal, or just to enjoy on their own. Be sure to check out the website for the entertainment schedule, too.
Oh, and if you are wondering about the name, the owner’s say it originated at the end of a long hard day of vine work when they climbed to the top of the mountain and felt like fainting. From there the nickname, Fainting Goat, was born. And yes, they have goats.  FaintingGoatVineyardsAndWinery.com

CHATEAU MEICHTRY WINERY, Talking Rock/Ellijay
In 1921, at the age of 25, Stephan Meichtry traveled to America from the canton of Valais, Switzerland with only a suitcase and an adventure for life. He settled in Maspeth, New York, where he would later raise his two children and further develop his passion for wine. It is believed that when he came to America, he brought his own root stock from Switzerland and grew the vines he used for his lifelong wine-making. A stock from these same vines is now planted at Chateau Meichtry Vineyard.

Make it a weekend getaway at this winery with a stay at the on-site villa in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Come for a tasting or a glass while enjoying the beautiful scenery, and on weekends, enjoy live music entertainment from a great array of Georgia musicians every Saturday and Sunday from 1:30-5:30. Tours are available every Saturday and Sunday.  ChateauMeichtry.co
