SCIence FRIday Night: The Georgia Gold Rush
January 10, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Nearly two hundred years ago, Georgia experienced the first major gold rush in this country. Tellus Science Museum Executive Director Jose Santamaria will cover the geology of Georgia’s gold deposits, the series of events that created chaos in the hills of north Georgia, the ensuing aftermath, and the question: “is there still gold in them thar hills?” The program includes stunning photographs of Georgia gold specimens from the museum’s collection, some of which were collected in the 1800s by our first state geologists, and some which were found just a few years ago.
