Carters Lake is home to its very own designated astronomy field. Located in Northbank Park, it is an open field approximately 2 acres in size including the basketball court area with drive-through access to carry heavy astronomy equipment to the field using your vehicle. There are interpretive panels located on site to educate any interested visitors in some of the basic principles of astronomy.
The field hosts what are roughly Bortle 4 / 3 skies. There is some light interference from the dam structure lighting at times, but this is on the north of the field. The skies are open from east to nearly west with a small stand of trees on the west end of the field.
You’ll love using the field! This can be a new haven for the amateur astronomers who are stuck with neighborhood lighting! Come on out and check us out!
