State Parks in Georgia's Historic High Country

There are 6 state parks in Northwest Georgia:

  • Cloudland Canyon State Park(Lookout Mountain)
  • Fort Mountain State Park (Chatsworth)
  • James H. Floyd State Park (Summerville)
  • Red Top Mountain State Parks (Cartersville)
  • John Tanner State Park (Carrollton)
  • Sweetwater Creek State Park (Lithia Springs)

Each of these State Parks offers a wide range of services. including hiking trails, RV and tent camping, lodging and picnic areas.

Cloudland Canyon - The rugged beauty and long-distance scenic views on Lookout Mountain make this state park naturally appealing. Hiking trails lead to waterfalls inside the canyon itself. Amenities include tent, trailer and RV campsites. cotteges, picnic areas and a group lodge.

Fort Mountain - Named for a Woodland Indian structure that resembles a fort, this park includes 14 miles of hiking trails and almost 30 miles of mountain bike trails. At the center of the fun is a lake with a beach (no motorboats on the lake). Amenities include RV, trailer and tent camping, and picnic areas

James H. Floyd - This scenic park has hiking, picnic areas, playgrounds and plenty of tent, trailer and RV camping areas centered on 2 lakes.

John Tanner - Noted for its white sand beach, the park also includes some camping (including group camping), picnic areas and mini-golf

Red Top Mountain - Popular park on the shores of Lake Allatoona just a couple of minutes east of I-75. Activities include boating, swimming, fishing, tennis, and miniature golf. Amenities include an upscale 33-room lodge, 18 cottages, and tent, trailer and RV campsites. Picnic areas are available.

Sweetwater Creek - Historic site of a cotton mill destroyed during the Civil War, the park features a large lake and visitor center, fishing, canoe and boat rental, and two docks.
