| New Antiques & Arts Festival in Adairsville April 17-18 Adairsville, one of Georgia’s most historic cities, will host a new festival, Antiques & Arts in Adairsville, April 17-18, from 9 am-6 pm on the Historic Public Square. Admission is free to the public. An appraisal fair will also be included on Saturday from 2-5 pm with experts in jewelry, glassware, artwork, furniture and more. Arts in the Gardens at Oak Hill Planned May 2 Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will partner with the Rome Area Council for the Arts to present this special day of arts, music and garden events on May 2, from 11 am-5 pm. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students and free for children ages 6 and under. The festival will feature artists and craftsmen from throughout the region, showcasing paintings and craft items with a nature or floral theme. Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum is the former home of Berry College founder Martha Berry (1865-1942), and is located at the intersection of GA Loop 1 and US 27 in Rome, Georgia. Nature and Food Lovers Will Want to Visit Calhoun in April Spring in northwest Georgia is a time to get out and celebrate the warmth of the season. April 10—Oostanaula Odyssey Guided Paddle Trip—Paddle 13 miles beginning at the opening of the new GA 156 Oostanaula Boat Ramp, to GA 140 for a beautiful tour of northwest Georgia’s Ridge & Valley region featuring bluffs, sandbars and freshwater mussel habitat. Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race & Arts in The Park Organizers of the 13th Annual Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race on April 10, promise a challenging contest with lots of surprises and some of the most stunning scenery anywhere – plus the famous Blue Ridge hospitality that racers have come to expect and enjoy. Some 80 co-ed teams of three will hike, mountain bike, run and kayak in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Carrollton to Celebrate Mayfest and Reopening of McIntosh Reserve Carrollton, Georgia will host its Mayfest Arts and Crafts Festival in downtown Carrollton on Saturday, May 1. The all-day festival will include arts, crafts, food and entertainment in Carrollton’s historic heart. On Memorial Day weekend, the McIntosh Reserve Park in Carroll County near Whitesburg plans to re-open after having been closed for months due to flooding. This is a tentative plan but park management hopes to be able to meet this goal. Learning Lectures at the Bartow History Museum History buffs make note of these informative programs planned at the Bartow History Museum in the coming months. The Lunch & Learn series will feature the following topics & speakers: - April 21 – Christine Transue, a native of Scotland, Susan Tumlin and other members of the local branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society, will discuss the history and customs of Scottish country dancing. Demonstrations will follow the presentation.
- May 19 – Robert Hyde, local Civil War historian, will discuss the military career of Confederate leader Nathan Bedford Forrest.
- June 16 – Daniel Roper, editor of Georgia Backroads magazine, will talk about Georgians who were aboard the Titanic and other stories from the book We Shall Die Together, of which he is co-editor.
The Evening Lecture Series will feature: - April 29 – Scot Keith, senior archaeologist at Terracon, will discuss Cartersville’s Leake Site in regards to its history as a major prehistoric ceremonial center and the current efforts to preserve and protect the site from further development.
- May 27 – J.B. Tate, local historian, will discuss the early history of Cass County and Cartersville from 1832-1870.
- June 24 – Dr. Tom Scott, history professor at Kennesaw State University, will discuss the Civil Rights Revolution in Bartow and Cobb Counties.

Plans Underway for Dixie Highway 90-mile Yard Sale Bargain hunters mark your calendars for June 4-6, 2010 and head to northwest Georgia for the annual Dixie Highway 90-mile Yard Sale. The route follows the Old Dixie Highway which runs through the communities of Ringgold, Tunnel Hill, Dalton, Resaca, Calhoun, Adairsville, Cassville, Cartersville, Emerson, Acworth, Kennesaw and Marietta. In past years hundreds of sales have been recorded from Acworth north to Chattanooga.
